Life Cycle of the Butterfly!

As part of our Inquiry, looking at Change, change, change, we had a major focus on the changes that happen in the life cycle of the butterfly.

We loved having the swan plant with the caterpillars to watch all the changes, in our class.  As each stage of the life cycle occurred we did some focus writing and/or art.

This first picture shows the three stages from the egg on a leaf, to the caterpillar being hatched to the caterpillar changing into a chrysalis.
Lastly, as part of our art, we created our mosaic butterfly.  We drew our butterfly after looking at it when it came out of the chrysalis.  Next we had to rip paper and glue it on for the wings.  After that we cut out our butterfly and glued it on to the background we had dyed. They look fabulous up on our wall, what do you think?
First the egg is laid and hatches into a caterpillar and then into a butterfly.

First the caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and the chrysalis turns into a butterfly.

The caterpillar likes eating swan plants for days and days.  Next the caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and when it comes out it's a butterfly.
A butterfly lays a egg.  Then a caterpillar comes out.
The caterpillar goes first and then the chrysalis, then the butterfly.
In the life cycle of the butterfly, first the butterfly is a caterpillar.  Next the caterpillar goes into a chrysalis and next the caterpillar turns into a butterfly.
This is the first butterfly that hatched in this class.  When it flies the wings dry.

Shape Monsters!!!

This week, our Maths focus has been shapes for geometry.  We have discussed various shapes and classified them into groups according to how many corners or sides they have.

Have a chat with your child and see if they can share with you how many corners or sides some shapes have!

As part of our shapes we have designed 'Shape Monsters'.  We have used circles, rectangles, squares, triangles and any other shape the children wanted to create our monster.  What do you think???
